Introducing a new illustrated Spartapuss series for readers aged 6-8.

The Olympuss Games series is set in ancient Greece and ancient Rome. Cats rule the world. In fact, people have never existed.

New to Rome, the son of Spartapuss has a lot to learn. When a mysterious stranger pays his debts, he finds himself in the School for Strays a school for gladiator cats. Follow SOS and his fiery friend Furia on a quest that takes them from gladiator school to The Olympuss Games.

"Spartapuss is already the star of a great series and now younger readers can enjoy his son's exploits in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Not the ancient worlds you may know, though - humans have never existed here. Son of Spartapuss has a lot to learn when a mysterious stranger offers to pay his debts he finds himself in the School for Strays, a school for gladiators.. and en route to the Olympuss Games. If you love puns, then you are in for a real treat! And if you don't, but want to learn a bit of ancient history whilst enjoying a fun story, either way, this is a great series for you!" Parents in Touch

"The fun continues as The Son of Spartapuss discovers that his friend Furia is on a secret quest. Before their adventure begins, they must defeat the one-eyed Cyclaw. Join the Son of Spartapuss and his fiery friend Furia as they battle their way from gladiator school to the Olympuss Games. The series is an excellent way to introduce young readers (6+) to the world of ancient Greece and Rome; they make good class readers. Lively illustrations by Chris Watson add to the enjoyment." Parents In Touch

Spartapuss's son is different from his father in some ways, but not so different that he doesn't dive head first into incidents without thinking through the possible consequences. Inevitably that puts him in a lot of danger for a fair length of time, but that's life for those in the Spartapuss family. I loved his eagerness to do what was right regardless of what others told him. I loved the new friendships he forged with characters who are unforgettable, including Furia who wasn't as helpless as she seemed and thankfully reappears throughout the series. I enjoyed refreshing myself over the Roman slave system and how gladiators were chosen, I alternated between laughing and groaning at the far too frequent occasions which Sparapuss's son landed himself into more trouble, because most of the time I couldn't imagine how things could get worse and they did. Now, you know what kind of book I'd like to read next in Robin's series? The daughter of Spartapuss! Or grandaughter! Nayu's Reading Corner.

Author Robin Price says: :
"Many younger readers are keen to read my Spartapuss stories. But at 200 pages per book, the original series can be a bit difficult. For example: if you are aged 6-7 and you are reading 'chapter' books. Or if you're learning English, or if you are an 'improving' reader.
So I've created a new four-part series. It starts in a gladiator school (The School for Strays). It features the Son of Spartapuss (cruelly nicknamed 'The Spartan' because he let slip that his father used to work in a spa!) The Son of Spartapuss hooks up with an over-confident cat called Maxi and a fiery female called Furia. She has a nose for trouble! The books follow their adventures from the gladiator school in Rome to The Olympuss Games in Greece.
When Nero was Emperor - the famous games in Greece were in a sad 'decline'. The Romans introduced some new ideas to the ancient competition in order to make them more exciting - like getting boxers to fight with iron gloves!

This time I've set a puzzle that runs across four books.
Each book features 15 drawings by the artist Chris Watson (who designed the cover for our Beowuff books). They are just 96 pages long - about half the length of the original Spartapuss books. The text is larger too so that makes them easy to read. The first two Olympuss Games books will be published in autumn 2014, with the final two appearing in 2015.

P.S. Note to grown up readers (about 25 percent of readers are grown ups). If you enjoyed Spartapuss, you will probably like this new series but you might like to wait until they are parcelled up into a single volume."
